A hygienist just gave her notice. What do we owe her on her last pay?

If you use a third-party payroll agency, notify them immediately. Pay all wages she's owed, including any unused vacation pay, by the later of seven days after her last day or her next regular pay day. Because she resigned, termination pay doesn't apply. Check her employment agreement for anything else it promises, such as a bonus.

What does a patient's informed consent need to cover?

Explain the treatment, its benefits, material risks and side effects, the alternatives, what happens without it, and the expected cost. Consent must be voluntary, specific to the treatment, and given by a capable patient or their substitute decision-maker. It needn't be in writing, but chart what was discussed and decided. For risky or invasive treatment, a signed written consent is strongly advised.

How can we get more word‑of‑mouth referrals?

Give patients an experience worth sharing; it's free and there's no better marketing strategy. Train your team to ask for referrals after a positive visit—many offices also invite reviews by email or text. Do thank patients, but do not reward a referral or review. Finally, do reply to reviews, but do not confirm that someone is a patient unless they have explicitly consented.

Why BestPractices

Answers for the work beyond the chair.

Patient care is at the heart of your practice. Running it also means leading a team, managing a business, and navigating risk in a highly regulated environment.

  • Leave

A team member asks about a leave of absence.

  • IPAC

You need to update an IPAC policy.

  • Billing

The front desk is looking for billing guidance.

  • Manuals

An equipment manual contains an answer no one can find.

These are everyday questions, but answering them can mean searching multiple websites, digging through folders, or waiting for someone to get back to you.

BestPractices gives clinic owners and their teams one place to start. Ask a question in plain language, review the sources behind the answer, and use the information to decide what to do next. That leaves more time for your team, your patients, and the business you are building.

How BestPractices works

From everyday questions to confident next steps.

Ask BestPractices

Answers grounded in expert-reviewed sources.

Ask about employment, regulatory requirements, billing, marketing, and practice operations. Answers draw on a curated knowledge base of expert-reviewed resources and official sources, with citations and links so you can check the guidance yourself.

Resources ready to use

Templates and tools designed for dental practices.

Every policy, procedure, playbook, consent template, patient letter, and form is created by experts who know the regulations that apply to dental practices. The AI assistant then helps you tailor each one to your practice.

Your documents

Get answers from the documents you already have.

Upload your policies, equipment manuals, safety data sheets, and other practice documents. Then ask a question and find the answer without digging through folders or flipping through binders.

Expert support

Advice and peace of mind when a situation needs a closer look.

The right support builds a stronger practice.

BestPractices helps you strengthen the business behind patient care. When you know where to find the right answers, your team works more effectively, patients get a better experience, and practice leaders have more time to focus on growth.

Trusted guidance from experts.

Our founders have led HR, legal, compliance, risk management, and marketing functions, including senior roles supporting hundreds of dental clinics across Canada and regulatory work at the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. That experience shapes every resource on the platform.

Put BestPractices to work in your clinic.

We're inviting independent clinics and small groups to use BestPractices on real operational questions and help shape its development. Start with an introductory conversation so we can learn about your practice, show you the platform, and explore whether the pilot is a good fit.

For four months, pilot practices get free access to the AI assistant, resource library, and document library, plus onboarding and three hours of consulting support each month from our team. We'll walk you through the details when we talk.

In return, we ask participating practices to use the platform regularly, bring it real operational questions, and share candid feedback on what works and what could be better. We'll review expectations together before you join.

Booking an introduction does not automatically enrol your practice in the pilot.
